Finished

1 day left

They were at Kraz’s house again. Uk was still passed out—lying on the floor. Avso paced the room.

Uk stirred. He slowly sat up and glanced at all of them. Then he stared at the wall and didn’t move.

“Uk,” Avso said,” What was that?”

Uk didn’t answer.

“Why in the world would you start laughing?”

“I didn’t mean to,” he whispered.

“What does that matter? You almost got yourself killed.”

“Well, boohoo. Good riddance.” Uk’s looked down at the floor.

“Are you insane?!” Avso yelled. “That’s—“

“Listen!” Uk slammed his hand against the floor. “It’s not my fault I’m like this. Do you think I want to be the way I am?” He rushed onto his feet and out the door.

Avso paced more around the room. What’s his problem? Why in the world would he do such a thing? I knew there was something wrong with him.

He stopped pacing and ran his hands through his dreads. I don’t know what’s happening with him .... But he doesn’t like it.

Avso sighed and slowly turned around. He walked out the door.

Uk was sitting beside the door, staring off into space. He glanced at Avso. “Leave me alone.”

Avso sat on the ground, leaving a gap between him and Uk.

“Uk ... I don’t know what happened, but ... I hope you can overcome whatever it is.”

Uk put his head in his hands. “Thanks ... But I don’t think I can.”

“Why not?”

Uk shook his head and didn’t answer. Avso sat by him for a while. After a long silence, Avso stood up and walked to the door.

“You’ll do well, I know it. We just have to finish our mission. Then everything will be better.”

Avso walked inside. They hadn’t even gotten the amulet. The mission seemed increasingly impossible to finish.
